Royal Wedding fever has officially hit! We are 5 days away from watching Prince Harry and Ms Meghan Markle walk down the aisle of St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.
Windsor Castle is resplendent in the sunshine today and, not surprisingly, is teeming with tourists and TV crews. People are dodging cameramen, royal reporters, news anchors and the ubiquitous selfie-sticks, and others are photobombing perfectly timed shots accidentally or maybe on purpose for those with mischief in mind?

The castle will be closed later in the week for the final preparations inside the grounds, but today, visitors and people setting up are milling around together.

The bunting has been hung and Union Jack flags are fluttering above the tourists.

Inside the castle people are queuing to see the State Apartments and St George’s Chapel. The on-site souvenir shops are doing a roaring trade in official Royal Wedding knick-knacks. They are quite pricey though, I’m heading outside to find the cheapest tat.
The officially sanctioned elegantly designed souvenirs of the big day are tempting visitors of the castle. I bought several postcards of St George’s Chapel as there is a no photography rule and an on topic Prince Harry postcard to send to my mother.

Above you can see that Queen Elizabeth II is in residence. The Royal Standard flag always flies when the Queen is home.

Above is St George’s Chapel where the marriage will take place. Sadly, there is no photography allowed inside. Something I genuinely forgot in my excitement, so I can share with you the ornate ceiling of the Chapel!

I’m looking forward to watching the Royal Wedding on TV on Saturday. The crowds expected in Windsor for the occasion have been advised to travel there at dawn.

I will absolutely be watching it (with my post on what to watch for up today haha)! I did visit Windsor but HM decided a week before to go to Windsor (even though I had planned my trip from Canada to specifically be able to go to Windsor and see things like the chapel…)! I am hoping to perhaps stop again on my trip in the winter, and have a good wander. Although I am quite excited about it all, I can’t say I will be buying any souvenirs! https://anhistorianabouttown.com/2018/05/14/what-to-watch-for-in-the-royal-wedding/

I’m not one for royal souviners, but I really want to see what the pound shop has! The official fruit cake is £20!

I detest fruit cake, so this seems doubly awful to me haha

I don’t mind it if given to me. I wouldn’t buy it!

I won’t get up to watch it, like I did with Lady Diana, (is it a morning wedding?) but plan on checking out the video later, esp. the dress!

The wedding is at noon. The build up to it should be fun, celeb spotting, looking at the outfits, all the commentary, I’m a sucker for it all!

I’ve changed my mind….I will get up for it….coverage starts here at 5:30 am due to the time difference…..I’m getting sucked in by all the talk already, and am starting to feel a bit sorry for her because of the media coverage re her dad! I can always go back to bed.

I will definitely be watching it, everyone is deserting me so I shall have some peace and quiet, although I am going out for 1.30 to get my nails done and have an indian head massage, which I have never had before, so will have it on record just in case there is something I might miss, I like fruit cake and usually make my own so that works out a lot cheaper, definitely would not pay £20 for one!!!, lovely colourful pictures

I remember well getting up in the middle of the night to watch the coverage of Charles and Diana’s wedding. Being a teenager at the time, loss of sleep didn’t affect me terribly. I’ll probably use technology in my favor this time around and watch it on video later; my old age is showing lol!!!

I watched it and thought it was inspiring to see two people from different parts of the world get married with all the fan fair and all.
